BUDDE is a German design studio, founded in 2020 and led by Architect Johannes Budde and Meike Papenfuss. As a strong duo, Johannes is the creative mind behind BUDDE, complemented by the business and brand expertise of Meike.
Driven by a courageous spirit, BUDDE seeks to introduce meaningful designs that provide a new take on a quotidian object. The studio’s practice is characterized by eliminating excess and relying on essential forms. Instead of forcing the canvas into an envisioned shape, the material’s unique textile characteristics co-lead the production process and create organic forms – making each piece a “one-off”. Thanks to RUG’N ROLL, the versatile and texture-rich industrial material awakens to new life.
Rug'n Rool stool
At first glance, the RUG’N ROLL stool appears as a minimalist sculpture—its form both simple and profound. Crafted from Concrete Canvas, a flexible fabric infused with a thin layer of concrete, each stool is hand-shaped, allowing the material’s natural drape to dictate its final form. Once hydrated, the structure hardens within 24 hours, resulting in a durable, waterproof, and fire-resistant piece. The stool’s organic curves and subtle textures evoke the softness of fabric, challenging perceptions.
