PIECE OF ISHIGAKI Ceramics Sculpture

In the serene embrace of Ishigaki Island, where the vibrant coral reefs dance beneath azure waves, countless fragments of coral find their way to the shore, each whispering tales of the ocean’s depths. Among these, one piece stood out, captivating with its unique form and presence.
I’ve always believed that as humans, we merely echo what the universe has already created, mirroring the divine craftsmanship that surrounds us. And so, inspired by this particular coral, I brought it home, treasuring its innate beauty. This coral, once a living part of the ocean’s vast tapestry, transformed through my hands. It was sculpted into a new form and fired in a black ceramics kiln, where the intense heat wrought a magical transformation. The yellowish-orangish clay metamorphosed into a deep black, accented with shades of silver and gold, reminiscent of the shimmering sea under the moonlight.

Through this sculpture, I seek to honor the timeless connection between the divine and humanity, reminding us of the inherent beauty and uniqueness within each of us, while also humbly acknowledging our place within the vastness of creation.
